The Perfect Bike Tour 35KM near Tulip Fields in Lisse, Netherlands

If you want to explore the Tulip Fields in the Netherlands, you have to rent a bike in order to get the full experience and see the area. There are many fields which are difficult, if not impossible to reach by car. Hence why renting a bike could be a great solution to this. In this post you will find a 35KM long bike ride across the Tulip Fields near Lisse and Noordwijkerhout in the province of South Holland.

Where to rent a bike?

There are a few general bike rental companies in the Netherlands, which are also located in Lisse. I can recommend rent-a-bike van dam or if you are near a the camp site you can also rent a bike from here. This is what we did, we were able to leave our car here and rent a bike for 10 eur (Camping De Duinpan).

What do the Dutch BIKING NUMBERS MEAN? (KNOOPPUNT ROUTE)

In the Netherlands, and some other European countries there is a worked out system for bike rides similar to how highways have a number to them. These “knooppunt routes” are easy to follow and user friendly as they are indicated all over. When you are biking in the Netherlands there are 2 types of signs for these numbers.

Direction Indicators

If you are biking towards one of the stops (knooppunten), you will see small signs indicating a number & an arrow pointing in which direction you need to bike in order to get to the stop. This thus means that you have not yet reached this stop, but are biking towards it.

Stops (Knooppunten)

Once you have arrived at these stops (knooppunten) you will find a larger sign indicating that you are at the marked spot. From here out you will see many smaller signs with other numbers leading you to the next spot.

Following these routes is easy, however requires a bit of paying attention. If you have been biking for more than a kilometre without seeing a new sign, chances are you missed a turn. Either approach a friendly local or return to the previous sign to make sure you are heading in the right direction.

The Route

This route will take you across plenty of tulip fields and popular spots in the region such as Keukenhof, Tulperij, and so much more. Please note that when there is an L or R it means that you have to turn Left or Right at the next crossing.
